The ninth green is perhaps the most significantly
contoured at Kingsbarns with perhaps the most
challenging pin locations. Approaching the green
from the left generally allows contours to be taken
on the perpendicular. Third shots from the right
must carry the steeply-rivetted, front right bunker
and then cope with contours which can severely
deflect the ball off one’s aim. An heroic tee shot
over the right side rough can pay huge dividends
but is inherently risky. A conservative drive and
second play left and short of the cross bunkers
may be the ticket.
